Planning 10 Guest Speakers - Schedule
2011-2012 Semester I
WorksafeBC - www.worksafebc.com
Our speakers have each endured a critical accident on the job, sustaining injuries most of us cannot even imagine. By sharing their experiences, they motivate others to think about the risks we all face at work, the impact of split-second decisions, and the role that every person plays in keeping young people safe. Each speaker has a unique, powerful – and, at times, heart-wrenching – story that’s sure to change how you look at your role in the workplace.

Labour Education - www.bcfed.ca
All too often young people are exploited on the job, whether it be work schedules, hourly wages, training wage, statutory holidays, overtime, how old do you have to be to work or who can you talk to. These questions are answered in our Labour Education presentation.
The Labour Education program was created by the B.C. Federation of Labour in 2003 to help young workers know what their rights are under the Employment Standards Act, so they don’t get abused. This presentation also engages young workers in discussion about unions and what they do. We have revised our program and added in the Self-Help Kit, so young workers know how to file a complaint with the Ministry of Labour.

tco2 Workshop
Taking Care of Ourselves, Taking Care of Others (TCO²) is a unique and empowering interactive workshop designed and delivered by youth, for youth about preventing sexual exploitation. Using monologues, role-plays and engaging activities, a group of three young adult facilitators involve participants in a meaningful and interactive discussion of what sexual exploitation is, who is involved, and how to prevent it from happening.
The workshop evolves each year in order to addresses current information on sexual exploitation, including: recruitment tactics, warning signs of exploitation, domestic trafficking, violence and drugs in the sex trade, exploitation over the Internet, non-commercial forms of exploitation, males in the sex trade, barriers to exiting the sex trade, community resources, and how to get help.
Workshops are interactive and customized to provide information most relevant to each school or community. Workshops are age appropriate and offered to children and youth ages 11 to 18, including students, alternate programs, youth groups, and other youth audiences.

Sexual Integrity Community Education "I chose to save sex because someone told me I was worth more than a fleeting relationship; that every part of me was priceless and should be treated as such." (grade 10 student, Surrey)
Growing up in this generation is challenging. Media, friends, and even pornography influence our ideas and decisions about sex and relationships, leaving many young people confused at a very vulnerable stage in their life. Many students lack the support to consider abstinence and make lasting healthy choices - that's where we come in. Through our original, interactive media presentations, our team shares how living a life of sexual integrity can be practical and help you move towards your future dreams and goals.
